Amos The Transparent, Birds Of Wales Tattoo Rock Parlour in Toronto, Ontario on February 12, 2009 Full Photo Set (19 photos) For last Thursday, the original plan was to head out to Sneaky Dee's for Hollerado and Dinosaur Bones, but it has come to the point where I don't like to miss Amos The Transparent when they play in Toronto. So I carefully timed my night, starting off at the Tattoo Rock Parlour to catch up with The Birds Of Wales, then stayed for a good portion of the set by Amos The Transparent before running out to Sneaky Dee's (coming next). Amos The TransparentAs I mentioned the last time I saw Amos The Transparent, I think this band has finally found a line-up that brings out the best in their music. I'm hooked on the song (Here's To) New Beginnings, with it's slow build-up and powerful ending; it's one of those songs I catch my brain playing in the background of my thoughts. Their previous show had an exceptionally receptive crowd up at the stage which encouraged the band to put on one of their strongest performances I've seen. At the Tattoo Rock Parlour, even though there was a fair amount of cheering and applause at certain points, like when Jonathan Chandler (vocals, guitar) belted out a portion of I'm On Trial a cappella, it was all coming from the back of the room. Either way, I truly enjoyed what I got to see of their set. They will be releasing new EP entitled My, What Big Teeth You Have... sometime soon, which is something I'll write about when it comes out. In the meantime, I'll be keeping my eyes open for more Toronto show dates.

Although I should probably feel creepy as a forty-something year-old male among the sea of twenty-something year old women that are drawn to their shows, I never do. I think the reason is just that Morgan Ross (vocals, guitar) attracts most of their eyes and Mike Caputo (guitar) commands the respect of their ears, so I'm easily unnoticed. The Birds Of Wales will be playing at Black Betty on March 12th as part of Canadian Music Week, and then will be heading down to SXSW in Austin, Texas to play Submerged on March 20th.
