For the two days prior and the day of the Junos, I was out in Vancouver at the Loden Hotel where the top two floors (including an amazing top floor penthouse) were roped off and served as the location for an event called The Artist Sanctuary. Musicians, TV personalities, and other VIPs were invited up to the sanctuary to enjoy drinks from the Grey Goose bar, listen to the Red Bull DJs, treated to private "bedroom performances" by a number of different performers, as well as receive a variety of other services and freebies.
On the Friday, there was a steady stream of musicians such as Kathleen Edwards, Kevin Hearn (of the Barenaked Ladies), Hawksley Workman, illScarlett, and more, including Dallas Green of City And Colour who went on to win a Juno for Songwriter Of The Year. And in the afternoon, we experienced intimate performances from Vince Vaccaro, The Midway State, and the incredible Samantha Schultz (more on her in the next article).
