War Child: Busking For Change - Our Lady Peace, Die Mannequin |

In 2007, Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace set out to the streets with two goals: To raise $30,000 for War Child by busking on the streets of Toronto, and at the same time make a music video for his latest solo hit song Yellow Brick Road. Amazingly, he managed to raise over $22,000 that one day for War Child, with many thousands more coming in after-the-fact, once people learned about what he did. This year, the event grew to be much larger, with 34 bands and over 50 musicians participating throughout the day, even in the rain. War Child is a charity dedicated to helping children who are affected by war. Last year's funds went toward rebuilding a school in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As far as I can tell, this year's funds are not earmarked for any specific project, but instead will go toward many different active War Child projects. The amount collected has not yet been counted, so if you were unable to catch the bands during on Thursday, you can still donate to the Busking For Change event online, effectively supporting both War Child and the musicians that put their effort toward raising funds and awareness. Our Lady PeaceThis year, it wasn't just Raine Maida out playing solo, it was all members of Our Lady Peace. For them, it was a pretty full day, starting at 7:40am when they did an interview for the 104.5 CHUM FM morning show, and then busked from 8am through until at least 5pm. I managed to catch them at Brookfield Place, which is situated just South of King St. and Wellington Ave.

As they finished their set, the rain set in, possibly reducing the number of people that got out to see the performers, but did not stop the efforts of the musicians.
