Fox Jaws Major Grange El Mocambo in Toronto, Ontario on August 21, 2009 Full Photo Set (16 photos) Barrie-based Fox Jaws often plays in the Toronto area, and as a result I've managed to see them more than a couple of times just because they were playing on the same bill as bands I went out to see. However, the last two times I've seen them, the band has managed to get inside my brain, in a good way, with one of their new songs. With all the new material being released on their new album, At Odds, the CD release party seemed like a good event for me to head out with the sole intention of seeing Fox Jaws. Fox Jaws Now, after hearing more of their new music, I think it's fair to say that this band has come a long way in a reasonably short period of time. In the past, I've always had a good time watching them perform, but didn't always connect with the material. Although I don't connect with all of their new material either, there are a few songs that click. Independent of whether a specific song grabs me or not, just seeing the band perform is a good enough reason to go their shows. There's nothing better than watching people who really enjoy making music, and with Daniel Allen on the guitar and Carleigh Aikins (vocals) displaying constant passion, it's just not that hard to get into it. I haven't managed to sit down with the new album yet, but it has received some stellar reviews, including 4.5 stars from Chart, extremely positive words from exclaim.ca, as well as a bit of gushing from the blog It's Not The Band I Hate It's The Fans (a blog I read regularly). Info: Fox Jaws \| Connect: MySpace, Twitter Media: Ahab's Ghost (mp3) Major Grange I'm not sure Neil Quinn (guitar, vocals) would see it this way, but Major Grange could probably be considered Neil's other band, especially since his other other band Zeus has been signed to Arts & Crafts. I would love to disassociate the two, but the truth is that I think Major Grange is benefiting from the experience Neil is getting with Zeus. Taylor Knox (bass, vocals) also brings some good experience to the band from The Golden Dogs, and along with Dave Dalrymple (guitar, vocals) and Rob Gordon (drums), the band sounded pretty great at points. Although a few songs wandered a bit too much, at least a few of their newer songs were both tight and catchy. Overall, a really good set. Info & Connect: Major Grange on MySpace
